Tag Requirements

All items must be tagged prior to arrival at the Sale.
Each item must have a price tag.
  • String tags are required for most items (see below: "Attaching Tags" for details)
    • String tags can be purchased (Amazon, Staples, Walmart etc) or homemade (card stock or see tag template)
  • The tag must be on the item NOT on the hanger or container unless the box is sealed.
  • For two-piece items, put tags on both items labeled 1 of 2 and 2 of 2.  Price only goes on one of the tags.
Attaching Tags:
  • Clothing:
    • Attach tag with safety pins, tagging gun, or attached through tag, loop, or button hole.
      • When attaching with safety pins or tagging gun, attach tag to the item label or seam to avoid creating holes in the material.
  • Jewelry:
    • Tag strings need to be less than an inch.
    • Jewelry Tag Size must meet minimum 1.75” X 1 “, but cannot be larger than 2”x 2”
  • Hard Goods:
    • Attach tag with clear packing tape.
  • Books:
    • Tags are a Post It note placed on the inside cover.
  • Shoes:
    • Tags should be tied to a buckle or lace hole or attached with a tagging gun.
      • If the shoe lacks a buckle or lace hole, secure the tag with tape wrapped completely around the shoe to prevent it from falling off.
Tag Content Requirements
  • Full Name and Unique Symbol on both sides of tag
    • The Unique Symbol can be a stamp, hand drawn mark or sticker.
  • Price on both sides of tag
  • Description on one side of tag
    • Gender, Size, Color, Measurements (as applicable e.g. Curtains)
    • Description is very helpful to match tag to an item should the tag become detached.
  • Tag Size – minimum 1.75” X 1”, but the bigger the better
Tags will be checked during registration by a Tag Sorting team member to be sure that tags meet the requirements.
If you have tag questions, message the Charlestown Sale Facebook page or email the tag sorting team:  [email protected]  We are happy to help!

Why are both sides and unique symbols important to my tags?
Name, symbol and price on both sides is needed as there are 250+ consignors, selling hundreds of items per day. Having the information on both sides saves time for the cashiers, tag sorters and check writers.  It also helps ensure that your tags are sorted correctly and you get credit for all sales.
